"CGLT reaches 10-year milestone"  Savannah Morning News, Thursday, October 24, 2002

Coastal Georgia Land Trust Inc., is celebrating its 10th anniversary as a non-profit organization responsible for permanently protecting more than 1,300 acres of pristine forests, wetlands, marshes and historic properties from development.

Since its inception, these lands include the Vernonburg area on the Vernon River in Chatham County to the Satilla River Basin in Camden County, all permanently protected by CGLT.

CGLT educates owners of undeveloped lands that have natural, scenic, historic, recreational or educational value by making use of a legal device, the conservation easement. Landowners retain ownership of their lands for their own estate planning, including future sales.

CGLT's services include yearly review of easements to ensure compliance with terms, which may allow for timber management, hunting, low-impact recreation, or nature trails, among other flexible options.

The tax abatement and estate planning benefits are numerous, but differ in each set of circumstances.
